English Key Stage 4

At Key Stage Four, students follow the AQA A syllabus for English Language and Literature, working towards gaining two GCSEs.

They study a Shakespeare play, a 19th Century novel, a modern play and a modern novel. They also study modern and pre-20th Century poetry and poems from other cultures and traditions. Students develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in preparation for their GCSEs; their work is assessed both through controlled assessments and examinations throughout the two year course.

The department runs after-school ‘catch-up’ sessions and revision sessions.
