English Department
Vision
The English Department at Endeavour High School are committed to empowering students with the language and communication skills necessary to thrive in the wider world.
We recognize the importance of English in underpinning the students’ whole schooling and our responsibility to educate beyond literature to instil social, moral, spiritual and cultural values within our students.
We also hope that through the study of English we can engage students with a wider appreciation of British culture and history.
Our aim is to cultivate and environment where curiosity and independence are key. We want our students to be confident and communicative with a passion to learn.

Spiritual: Spiritual growth is concerned with:
1, Assisting students to develop personal and shared beliefs
2, The search for meaning and purpose in life; raising students aspirations
3, Recognising and valuing one's own worth and that of others;
4, Creativity and the expression of thoughts and feelings through literature
5, Exercising imagination
Moral:
1, The English department will encourage students to: tell the truth; keep promises; respect the rights and property of others; act considerately towards others; help others; take responsibility for their own actions; and exercise self-discipline.
2, We will reject: bullying; cheating; deceit; cruelty; irresponsibility; and dishonesty.
3, Ideally, students should understand the value of rules and act upon them out of conviction, rather than from fear of getting into trouble.
Social:
The English department is committed to working with the home and the community to prepare students for relating to others in different social settings, taking responsibility, working effectively in groups and participating co-operatively and productively in English and the wider community. The English department is further committed to promoting an empathetic understanding of how societies function and are organised in structures such as the family, the school and local and wider communities.
1, Contribute to students’ social development through clubs, societies, teams and through educational visits and in-school events.
Cultural:
We are committed to preparing students to develop an empathetic understanding of aspects of their own and other cultural environments, be these religious, social or ethnic. We aim to counteract bias and appreciate value and celebrate the achievements of others and to prepare students for life in a multicultural society. It is recognised that students must experience other cultures in order to understand them fully.
