About Our School : Headteacher's Introduction
When the school was placed in 'Special Measures' in March 2004 the key areas for improvement were:
-
Improve the quality of teaching and learning, drawing on good practice from both within the school and outside
-
Improve the students' attitudes, behaviour and attendance
-
Make arrangements for a daily act of collective worship
-
Make arrangements for staff performance management
-
Ensure a better match of the curriculum to students' needs
-
Ensure the national curriculum requirements for music in years 7 to 9 and for ICT within all subjects are met
-
Strengthen governance, leadership and management with a focus on achievement; and Improve communications with parents and carers and their involvement with the school
Since the last report the school has continued to make progress across all fronts except attendance, which has made limited progress. The progress in attendance is really related to issues to do with software and hardware. The three visits we have had from HMI have reported reasonable progress between each visit and since the Ofsted in March 2004. The curriculum - what we teach to your children - has been deemed as good. This is a great tribute to staff and pupils as the school has really pulled together. I would also like to thank parents for their support during the year.
